Viewing a group of deer in your yard from your deck or patio in the mornings and evenings makes for a relaxing pastoral experience. UNTIL.....they become overpopulated and start to destroy your valuable landscaping and gardens. Other more dangerous and costly deer control problems include deer vehicle accidents and the spread of LYME DISEASE. There are approximately 20,000 deer, vehicle accidents yearly in Missouri.
Many major and smaller urban and suburban areas have turned to bowhunting as the most cost effective & efficient method of eliminating deer trouble.

Deer Trouble

.
What is the best way to keep deer from eating the garden & landscaping plants?
There is no foolproof method.
Sprays, soap, hair bags, etc. can help but their effect diminishes rapidly (especially in a rainy climate) and have to be re-applied often becoming quite expensive in some instances.
Fencing may be the most effective method but can easily spoil the esthetics of your landscaping. To be effective most fences need to be at least 8 feet in height.
The best results can be had by planting shrubs, flowers, trees that deer do not find appetizing. A garden will need a high fence or an electrically charged fence.
